Why do you (mainly) collect autographs?

I am an autograph collector. With that being said though, I only collect from people that I admire/am a fan of.
I don't get peoples autographs just to have them. There has to be something about them I really like, otherwise their autograph will have no value to me.

btw I really like this new smily. lol.

Great post {thumb2} , I agree with everything you said. I don't see the point/value of having binders full of people I don't know of.
Also, this is my hobby. What I do for fun and for excitement (for this feeling .) It is not "just" a hobby though.

Political - This is the hard one. I must say that I am not a "fan" of all the political figures in my collection. I guess this is the case for most political autograph collectors anyways.

I want to lean my collection more towards political, since they are important people in history. Whether it be for better or worse.
They had an impact and it is cool having their autographs to me. Does that make sense?


I only send occasionally too zanne, I only sent 10 request this year. Which compared to others is very, very low.

Thank you for all the replies, everyone! It's interesting (for me, anyways) to see why we're all here - it seems the majority so far are either fans or autograph collectors of people they like. {thumb2}

I think the second option best describes me. Although I do collect autographs, I only collect those of people I am a fan of. I love writing to people I admire and talking about their roles/books etc. I find it so enjoyable.
It means a lot when celebrities take the time to write a little message on your signed picture, or include a little note for you. It shows how much they appreciate having you as a fan.

I chose option 2.

I only collect autographs of people that I really like, or I liked them in a specific role or something. I don't see the point of having an autograph of someone I dislike, if I'm spending time and money to obtain their signature. And I couldn't lie about liking them if I didn't.

I also collect autographs as a hobby, and because I lament not having signed things of actors etc who have died and who I would have loved to have had, I mean to try and get as many of my favourites who are still around. It's nice to be able to watch a film and actually see an actor who you have signed photograph of and know that out of all the things they have seen and done, they still took the time to sign something for you.

Even if they never think of your letter again, there is sort of a little special something between you and them for as long as you have your autograph.

I chose number two because that's the main reason I collect. I could never write to someone I knew nothing about. I find it hard enough to word letters to people I do admire so I can't even think about writing to someone I don't like
However, my hobby does keep me busy and I like to show it off too so I could have chosen those options as well! {thumb2}

I picked other but i also collect because im a fan of the person. My reason for other is because having a message from a celeb makes me have some sort of connection with them. Its like they have written me a message and its just a good feeling because your such a big fan of them
