Steve Carlton email failure
I sent an email to Steve Carlton today and he responded saying that it would cost $32.00 for him to just sign an 8x10 or baseball card. he said it was for a charity of his choice. Do you think his price is outlandish JUST for an autograph? It was disappointing when I read this email because he would be a great baseball player's autograph to have. Let me know what you think of his response to my request

well that's kind of up to you because its for charity so I would do it if you really like this person and its going to a good cause.
but its up to you some people would because of "charity" but some wouldn't

It's a strange number, but then again he wore number 32. You can buy a sig on a perez-steele or 8x10 for 35-60 bucks and have a psa or jsa cert. But, if you believe in the cause he donates to, I say go for it.

I'd pay all the money in the world to charity but i don't have that kinda money. I REALLY wish I did though. It's tough in this economy.

Re: Steve Carlton email failure
Hi:
I travel to hall of fame weekend every year and I have asked Steve numerous time to sign for free with no luck. I saw Steve sign a beer can and gave it to a fan one year and that was all he signed.
I believe that I tried for at least six years to get it. So, there is a line between effort and cost. I am blessed to be able to make a donation to his charity.
I understand that you are not able to make the donation. The Grace Fund does help many people. you can look it up on the web. The $32 gets you his autograph and an inscription. On two seperate occasions I have sent an Induction Day Card and $29 and I did not get the inscription, but he signed it.
One way to look at is that he is relatively inexpensive through the mail vs. at a show.
I hope this helps.

Re: Steve Carlton email failure
$32 is very reasonable for a HOF'er. If he does include an inscription, it's most likely "HOF 94", but at a show, it'll most likely cost $20-$25 for that alone, so $32 for an autograph and inscription and you're helping charity out, not bad at all...if you can afford it.
Re: Steve Carlton email failure
I'd have to agree with other posters, $32 is relatively cheap compared to show prices. And the Grace fund is a great organization. I always thought he signed for $25. Thats what I paid a few years ago. I sent a photo and he sent it back unsigned with a note saying it got damaged and he included another photo signed. It was a very nice thing for him to do, especially considering I didn't even think the photo got damaged badly! I also met him once years ago at a celebrity softball game. I'm a little surprised milbfan hasn't been able to get him, he was really nice and accommodating that day. Either way, I can only echo what others have said, its for a good cause, go for it if you have the means.
Feedback is always welcomed and appreciated!
