COMMENTS TO DATABASE MANAGERS

Unread post by cagneyfan »

As an aid to prevent members from wasting their money - If there is no relatively recent success posted for a celebrity can a library be set up whereby it can tell us if the celeb. signs TTM, uses a secretary, AP, preprint or charges for an autograph? Also, how can the members help to find out if the addresses are current and can we find addresses that are not listed? In other words - how do you guys do it and would you be able to pass some of the workload onto those members that volunteer to help gather the info.

Used address in database for all of these:
Tionne Watkins
Linda Perry
Annaliese van der Pol
Lil Jon

None of them worked, all RTS

This makes me laugh, simply because anyone who has been here for more than a month should know admin will do nothing, delegate nothing and doesn't care.

To directly answer one of your points. If there is no recent feedback, then I don't see how a database of who has fakes etc would help. It still defaults to the last response.

As I have said previously, this forum suffers because Admin doesn't care, he just lets it roll and does the minimum to keep it afloat. I'm not even convinced he has decent English language skills as he moves stuff to the wrong place all the time. The solution is what many members have done, and start smaller forums which are more focused. Plenty of members and former members have done so. Or you take the proverb at face value... you get what you pay for.... this is free, so anyone posts anything. Paid sites aren't that expensive and the good ones are excellent. Anyone who just uses this forum to base their request on needs to take a look at what they want out of the hobby.

This is better suited for the Forum Ideas forum. If you want to be taken seriously a good start would be using the correct forum.

I was aware of that but the Autograph Discussion Forum says to direct comments to the database managers in said forum. Since the topic was about the database I specifically did not use the ideas forum. Get your forums straight. But I have to say that the - you get what you pay for advice sounds right and I had reservations that things weren't running that efficiently to say the least. It was a somewhat baited post to get some reactions and opinions. Happy collecting! {up}
P.S. stillluckyas13canbe - can you suggest a good autograph site to join?

Sadly, there are effectively no database managers other than... well, see if you can guess ;)

It was mentioned on another thread, albeit initially by the homophobic moron that seems to like hanging around this forum, but StarTiger is the way forward. It costs me around £18 a year for membership, and it's a constant go to site for a huge variety of autographs, especially stateside. I don't use it's forum as much for posting, but it is of excellent standard, the database is handled perfectly, and it wipes the floor with here. As I have said in the past, I stay on here partly because I have friends on it, and partly because I have a misguided belief that one day it will go back to where it once was.

I too wish this forum would regain some of it's former glory.

As well as the constant spam everywhere, I now suspect Collecting Help is being trolled.

I think 1 in every 4 or 5 enquiries are genuine, the rest I am suspecting recently are trolls :(

It's sad because I am happy to help people out, but am so sick of the same questions over and over.

I think I need to start only answering the ones I think are genuine. Those from users with more than 3 posts, and whose questions show some understanding or grasp what they are after. Even a basic grasp!

For example I would term these genuine questions:

http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 7&t=318479

http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 7&t=318554

And this a possible trolling:

I know this may appear to be lame but I am serious and try to follow the rules.

1. Who are these trolls that are mentioned?
2. Am I am troll because I may have asked a serious question that was already asked but you think I am doing it to be a wise guy? If you examine some of my 300 posts you will see that I am serious about the hobby (abeit a few puns here and there) and try to help others where I can - so you have me confused.
3. What is the specific name of the google autograph website for 18 so I can check it out. Thanks.

1. Trolls... easy to spot... for me its anyone from those who just post "fake", "troll", or abuse to those who consistently post successes without any evidence or actual details to those who spend their life posting dross and drama queen behaviour all over here.
2. I don't believe kimmylee was meaning you
3. www.startiger.com is the site you're looking for. It's usually around $30/£20 per year, depending on exchange rates etc etc, so don't quote me on the exact price. It's a great deal though.

Hope that helps
