Yes, posting on a public forum does implicitly invite comments. Realistically, that's probably not the only issue.

Posting on a public forum also invites comments on grammar, punctuation, and spelling as well, although that would mean most finger-pointers (self included, occasionally) would be pointing back at themselves. Fortunately, we tend to overlook those deficiencies for the most part.

The bigger question is whether or not there can be a civil exchange of information by all concerned, be they total novices who are unaware of pre-prints or seasoned collectors who presume to know all of the ins and outs of the hobby. Truth be told, we all have something to gain, and some even have a little to give.

If I have ever been guilty of what would be considered uncharitable comments, I would like to apologize for them at this time. Perhaps some of the rest of you might want to consider doing the same.

I'm simply defending posters from trolls. Apparently, you want to defend said trolls.

Be kind to one another. It's pretty simple.

Instead, trolls on this forum trip over one another to declare something less than authentic....and enjoy doing so.

If someone asks for opinions on authenticity, by all means go right ahead. If they don't, mind your manners and say nothing less than congrats.

I will never congratulate anyone on getting fake autographs. Whether they ask for my opinion or not.

If you dont like me and the other members doing that.... maybe you need a new hobby.

If more members on here would be open to constructive criticism and be willing to learn more about this hobby... we wouldn't see the same fake autograph successes posted on a daily basis.

I definitely would not condone rude or mean-spirited comments. However, aren't we all here to get "authentic, hand-written signatures?" Pointing out that something is pre-printed, autopen or secretarial is helping weed-out the garbage, and helping identify real autographs. My biggest concern is a situation like this... A person posts a "success" that is an obvious autopen. All the responses are "Congrats!" and "Great Job!" A person new to autograph collecting gets on here, sees the responses, and thinks they can send to that address and get a real autograph. They waste their time and money to get a printed autograph.

I guess it bugs me because I've been there before. It helps to see honest opinions of others to help determine the chances of getting a real autograph from a particular address.

I'm with you on that one mate. I am as guilty as the next man of being sarcastic etc in my posting, but the amount on here who stoop to being abusive, or who seem to have no concept of basic premises like how to post in the right place, or commenting on non authentics. One day...
