Very sad indeed. He was one of the most charismatic and entertaining wrestlers to watch. He is also one of my favourite wrestling ttm successes. Last summer I sent him a request via one of his 'evening with'-style shows he did over here in the UK. I was unable to go due to distance so sent a request via the mail. I had all but given up on it until a few months back (April I think) this letter turns up from Canada with a Canadian stamp next to my UK one. I was thinking what can this be? and then I opened it up to find both my cards signed by Rowdy himself with two handwritten letters from the great man himself. In one of the letters he gave me some life advice, telling me the saying 'practice makes perfect' is a lie and that perfect practice makes perfect! He told me to make my own luck. I certainly will treasure those even more now. Rowdy will be truly missed.brochester8 wrote:Yes it's a very sad loss for wrestling. I was blessed to be able to meet him at the 2011 NWA Legends Fanfest in Atlanta. He was awesome to meet. Me and my son, who was 2 weeks shy of his 2nd Birthday at the time, were in line to meet him. He was the main attraction that year. I had my Entrance Greats figure to get signed. So while in line my son kept pressing the button. Once we got to him he popped up, patting my son on the back and being very nice talking to both of us. He then took figure and played the music himself, saying "I Love it". He then signed my figure and told me to make sure in 5 years to tell my son that Roddy Piper patted his back. My son is almost 6 now and still remembers that moment as he has the best memory of anyone I know. Anytime Piper would show up on Raw he'd watch carefully and make sure to tell me that "Roddy Piper patted his back", We saw piper again last year at Mad Monster in Charlotte and he made sure to remind me then. Regrettably I only saw him at the Q&A he did with Hogan and Mean Gene so I wasn't able to find him and talk to him that day, which I've regretted ever since and even more now. Friday when I told my son, he didn't want to believe me and of course reminded me once again that "Piper patted his back". He was probably the nicest wrestler I've met, and I've met hundreds, when it comes to conversations with fans to give them there moneys worth. He will be missed by millions.Denisrichard wrote:We lost rowdy Roddy Piper over the weekend.......

I assume you sent to the PC? Also what name did you send it to, Jason Albert? I tried last year too & didn't hear back. Congrats on the success, I'll have to try again.

I think last year I wrote Albert but this time I wrote Jason Albert.
However, he signed my card as Tensai but thats okay. Always glad when I get back from someone especially on a 2nd try.

He was a true angel. He helped me out a few times with advice & a helping hand with personal problems. My first contact with him was when I told him I got screwed over by a promotor while buying his autograph. The promotor had told me that Roddy didn't want to sign my photo. When hearing of this Roddy told me it was a lie and a month later (wasn't sooner because he was on the road) I had a couple of personalized photos sent by Roddy himself. I never forgot his gesture or others he had with me & members of my famiy. I'll sorely miss him & his contagious laughter.
