How to send your fan mail and autograph requests to Richard Carpenter?:

If you live in USA send a properly stamped and self addressed envelope (minimum size 8.5" x 4") with your request letter and a photo.
You can include a piece of cardboard to keep the photo from bending in shipping and also add "Do Not Bend" on the envelopes.

Richard Carpenter Singer/songwriter - June 11th, 2026
Richard Lynn Carpenter (born October 15, 1946) is an American musician, singer, songwriter and record producer, who formed half of the sibling duo the Carpenters alongside his younger sister Karen. He had numerous roles in the Carpenters, including record producer, arranger, pianist, keyboardist and songwriter as well as joining with Karen on harmony vocals. Richard and Karen signed with A&M Records on April 22, 1969. "Let's hope we have some hits," Herb Alpert told them. According to Richard, Alpert gave them artistic freedom in the recording studios but after Offering, their first album, was released and wasn't a big seller, it was rumored that some of A&M's people were asking Alpert to abandon the Carpenters but he believed in their talent and insisted on giving them another chance.
Alpert suggested the Carpenters record a Burt Bacharach and Hal David song called "(They Long to Be) Close to You" written in 1963. Though Richard worked up an arrangement only at Alpert's insistence, the song was an overnight success. Released on May 14, 1970, it rocketed up the Top 40 charts to No. 1, where it stayed for four weeks during June and July, paving the way for the duo's future records.

Sent him 2 photos on 18 Mar and got two photos back signed on 11 Jun.. He did not sign the photos that I had sent him. A printed note came back with his photos saying that the ones I had sent were not authorized photos. I had just printed a couple off the internet. He sent back a 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 (color) and a 5 X 7 (b/w). My photos were returned to me. His photos did have him and his sister on them.

Mr. Richard Carpenter singer (The Carpenters) awesome success! - December 12th, 2021
Mr. Richard Carpenter is a singer and was a member of The Carpenters. He and Karen Carpenter sang some songs They Long to Be Close to you, And I Love You So, Cant Smile Without You, Its Going to Take Some Time, and many others. On 9/27/2021 I mailed a letter explaining how I enjoy Mr. Carpenter's work to be very inspiring to me, a birthday card for Oct 15th, a small donation, and an SASE at:
