I don't know... but should locked topics be deleted?
Unless they are for reference or something?
Thanks

As far as I know, they're locked so really old threads don't get bumped. But not all old threads get locked, so I dunno....

I thought it was because some people posted another topic similar to another one... I don't know either :)

Threads are locked for a number of reasons:

-Arguments
-Outdated (like Andy said)
-The question has already been answered in another thread.
-Double or Similar posts
-To prevent members from posting in stickies

So does anyone think that locked topics should be deleted? :?

Locked feedback threads shouldn't be deleted. It really depends on what information the thread contains.

Locked Feedback topics aren't deleted because they are good references in future discussions. Also most other locked topics aren't deleted because they usually contain good information pertaining to this hobby.

I'm glad I found this section. I got frustrated because two topics I commented on got locked due to it being old. But since I was a newbie, I found that the question was relevant to something I needed to know. So, if something is still relevant, wouldn't it be easier to just answer the question and not lock it?

It's good that you bring this up. As has been stated before, topics are locked for a few reasons

1 - Old
2 - Duplicate Topic
3 - Argument/Fight
4 - Prevent Easy Post Count Bumping

And here's the best way I can explain it.

Any older topic is generally locked so that it won't get bumped up for no reason. Feedback topics are generally locked after 3 months, but a site feature is currently blocking the automatic lock feature

Duplicate posts are generally locked because they post no purpose...generally they're left as a general point of reference, but not used for discussion

A topic with an argument is locked for obvious reasons

Stikies are locked so that people can't post in them.

And along those same lines, if a thread gets locked in say the collecting help forum, then it's probably already been asnwered either in the thread itself or in a sticky
