I have plenty of clear plastic covers but how can you tell whether they're safe to use or not? Will those hanging folders from Staples work?? But I can't put them back to back right like one on top of another?

Clear plastic covers are fine to use. Preferably, try to go for ones marked "acid-free" or "archive quality".

Most stationers supply them, such as Staples, Office Depot etc.

They will say "acid-free" on the packaging. If they don't say, then you will have to assume they are not acid-free :?

But the packaging was thrown away long gone so... should I just buy more? My auto is in its envelope right now. Is that ok?

But how can you guys tell whether they're acidic or not? I don't want my autographs to be ruined. Is it ok if I just leave them in the envelopes?

No it is not, the envolopes have a high acid content themselfs.

Really the acid free plastic, is the only way, but also you MUST keep them out of heat, and sunlight.

As once damage is done, that's the end of your autograph collection.
