*** POLL ENDED *** FRAMING AND DISPLAYING V BINDING ......

Post by YOURS_SINCERELY »

I thought I would elaberate on a previous thread ("Cheap Frames").

Framing and displaying has its advantages but also its disadvantages.

ADVANTAGES
On display for you (or your friends) to look at anytime
Can make the room look more attractive
Shows a sence of accomplishment
Can make the item look more attractive
Can add several items together and frame (grouping)

DISADVATAGES
If overdone can make the room look cluttered
Expensive
If put in a room with sunglare can fade the item and/or signature
If you decide that you no-longer like the frame your stuck with it
Possibility of woodworm/whiteant (destroying wood)

Binding (ie. putting in folders) also has its advantages and disadvantages:

ADVANTAGES
Easily transportable (to showcase to your friends or other collectors)
Easier to swap an item (by taking it out of sleeve)
Out of the suns glaze (if stored correctly)
Cheap (in comparison to framing)
Takes up less room than frames

DISADVANTAGES
Not on display (ie. on a wall)
If stored in the wrong environment can cause sweating of signature etc
If stored in wrong folder can stick to the base (causing all sorts of probs)
If put in plastive sleeves can crease item (if person is heavy handed)
Easier to be misplaced

Hope this helps... feel free to add to the list if you wish.
