This must be new... I have not noticed it here in two years... What an odd rule

LMAO... I just noticed that too...and I think it's wrong. I just got Bobby Doerr and he was terrific about it. I hear all the time about Betty White signing and loving it. I have an autographed photo of Doris Day and a nice letter from her and I know she's over 80 too.
Someone fell asleep on that ball because logic would say they'd love to read a letter from someone who still remembers them and thinks enough about them to write them. Whether they respond or not is up to the star but at least let them have the enjoyment of reading a Fan letter, that might be all that brings a smile to their face that day.

I agree with this completely! I wrote to a celeb several years ago shortly before his death in 2007. He wasn't quite 80 yet (76, I believe) but his reply implied that he took it as a great compliment that he had fans that still wanted to write to him even though his fame came from several decades earlier. I like to think that I made him smile, even if it was only for the time it took him to read my letter.

I guess the thinking behind the silly rule is to avoid abusing the kindness of older celebs, but I still think it is a misguided thought.

I just noticed this like two minutes ago and I was like "What the heck is this about?!!" That's so stupid! This wasn't even on here a week ago lol...why would they even put that? What does the age of the celebrity matter? :?
Lol...how weird.

Ok I'm glad to hear folks I just noticing this now; I just noticed it yesterday and did a double take. One of my last successes was Phyllis Diller, and she's almost 94!

Old people are kinder than the younger.
