Re: Dick Van Dyke Success!
COAs mean nothing. If a long time con man writes a COA does that mean it's authentic? Of course not.
Now there are reputable people who do COAs but at the end of the day it doesn't confirm anything.
PSA and JSA confirmed the TTM Heston's as authentic for years and even after it was revealed on Autograph Magazine Live that the TTM were fake.
I have several DVD autographs and on multiple signed photos (I really have to wonder if the Barry Van Dyke autographs are fake too as they seem similar style and on the multi signed photo it looks like someone is trying hard to disquise it being the same signer). I do know though when it's time to give up on an actor sending fakes. Now maybe I could try and send his book and post-it request for a REAL autograph. But at this point I'd just much rather stick with a sure thing like Ed Asner where no matter the situation on street meet, convention or TTM has the same handwriting because it's him signing in all cases.
I was at a show a few weeks ago he was at, Ed Asner, and he had a long line. But he gave unique inscriptions just like the TTM. Could you say it was a rushed atmosphere, sure. Yet no differences in signatures.
James Garner is another one who many thought sent real autographs. I think the shaky ones now are real though. But his daughter was quoted on AML that he didn't understand the autograph thing and the TTMs were always signed by an assistant.
As for some who have said DVD TTMs come from his house and why would he have a secretary come to his house...celebrities may have large staff of people. If you don't want to believe he has a secretary then alright, maybe it's his wife who surely lives at the house.
I was on Star Archive/Tiger and was the biggest Charlton Heston fan. Sadly I came to the realization that all the time, money and effort I spent sending to him was for nothing. I liked DVD as well but celebrities do owe us nothing and that seems to be the attitude he takes whether he knows it or not because in reality someone else's signed "Dick Van Dyke" is nothing.

Who ever says autographs from Dick Van Dyke from this address are not real is talking from their backside. This is his home address, so why would he receive the mail and then pass it on to someone else to sign for him. Use you head people!!!!

Re: Dick Van Dyke Success!
Again, I am not commenting on the authenticity of DVD's responses, as I don't have the knowledge on that one, but the above post is one of the funniest I have read on this site, and that's saying something. Really... you don't think some celebs might have someone to handle mail coming to their home addresses?ron147 wrote:Who ever says autographs from Dick Van Dyke from this address are not real is talking from their backside. Re: Dick Van Dyke Success!
My grandfather has a maid service come over the house ever few weeks. He's not rich but just likes a clean house and does not have the time to do so himself due to having to spend nearly ever hour with my ill grandmother.
Dick Van Dyke is a big celebrity with lots of money and maybe not a lot of time. If my grandfather can have a service come in every few weeks to handle something small then I'm sure Dick needs someone coming in, even if only once a month, to handle something big like fan mail. He obviously thinks very highly of her ability to make a similar signature as the same TTMs have been coming out of the address for at least 15+ years. And that doesn't mean he's been signing himself all those years. Carol Lanning was Charlton Heston's secretary for years signing with all the TTMs coming from any address with most prevalent being the home address.
The reason we are posting about them being fake isn't to ruin anyone's life but to inform fellow board members as to not make the same mistakes we (or myself specifically) have made over the years sending requests to DVD and thinking I had the real thing. We are trying to better the collection of others in swaying them against the fakes and towards the real deal.
My first year of collecting probably saw 75 % fakes (maybe more) so that's wasted postage, supplies, my time in a thoughtful letter and I felt horrible about it. I would have LOVED to have been on a site like this one, isitreal, autograph magazine live, star archive etc...where we could find out about the fakes. Back in my starting days all I had were a few single fan sites and they thought as long as the sig was not AP or PP it was real.

I can just picture Dick Van Dyke walking down to the mailbox, sifting through the letters, writing out a check for the electric bill, signing autographs. No secretary, no personal assistant, just Dick. Wow, how naive.
PSA/DNA has certified plenty of secretarial signatures and even autopens over the years.

For many years PSA/DNA authenticated Farrah Fawcett's TTM signatures as real, but Todd Mueller proved the inaccuracy of that with his private signing with Farrah, who revealed that her TTM's were signed by a secretary who just happened to be the daughter of actor Morey Amsterdam. Those signatures are a good effort at replicating Farrah's signature but an expert can tell the difference and those old signatures are still being peddled as the real deal. Proof that PSA/DNA is sometimes a load of bull.
