From what I've seen, autopenned signatures usually have tell-tale dots in the letters, from where the pen hits and then lifts.

My picture was personalized, and the personalization is clearly written with the same sharpie (same strokes in the lettering), so I'm pretty sure it's not an autopen.

Congrats. I hope I receive mine as well. I'd say they're probably authentic since he lives in England now and since a while ago (the AP's used to be sent from LA) his mail started to get forwarded to the UK with several fans a year ago or so even receiving personalized items.

If the celeb/athlete wants to go through the trouble... Autopen machines can be programed with different matricies to write all kinds of personalizations, or write the celebs/athletes name with slight variations.

Some imes, the name will be AP and the personalization will be written by a secretary.

You are correct though, some of the older/cheaper AP machines do leave that dot when the marker starts and stops a new letter/word.


But if all those Burtons are the exact same size, with no variations in the writting, they are clearly AP. No human on earth could write there name half a dozen times 100% the exact same way.

That only works for the older auto-pen machines. Not everyone can afford to upgrade to the new ones. New auto-pen machines like the one that President Obama and many other world leaders use don't leave the dot and it isn't easy anymore to tell that it was signed by a machine. Seems that now Wayne Gretzky has upgraded to the new version as his auto-pens now have no dots. Usually every part of the signature is the same length/width though still with the newly made auto-pen machines.

Those autographs are likely auto-pens because the length/width seems to be the same all the way through the whole autograph.
