Attitude of Celebs
I'm sure there will be a thread on this some where and if you can point me in its direction thats fine.
I was just wondering how you feel about your average celebrity not signing autographs. Personally it annoys me a little but not too much. I would really like to get Rowan Atkinsons, Hugh Lauries and Robbie Coltrains, but as you know they all send out PP's due to their "fame". Where as arguably more famous people such as Judi Dench take the time to sign.
People like sports star's and e.g. Donald Trump, people who have not needed the public for their success they are just good at what they do, they don't owe the public anything as it were so its understandable if they don't sign autographs in my view and kind of them if they do.
But do you think it is fair that celebritys get a bit above themselves as it were and possibly forget its the people who are writing to them that got them where they are today. Naturally they will be getting alot which will result in them not wanting sign but other stars do make time so... your views

Re: Attitude of Celebs
Maybe my views are selfish or something, but when it comes to singers/bands/actors/actresses and so forth (people who put an actual product out), I think they owe it to fans to take some time to autograph for us. Without us buying their cd's or going to see their movies, they'd be normal and fairly poor like the rest of us. They should be honoured and humbled by people like us who spend their time and money writing to them - no celeb should be up themselves to think they're better than you or me. If I was a celeb I'd take at least three or four mins of my day to sign at least 10 autographs. Or..at least 20 a week. It wouldnt kill them at all, and without us they're, still talented yes, but not successful. We essentially provide their big salary every month. I know some people will disagree with me but hey, my opinion.
AUTHENTIC, OR NOTHING AT ALL.

Re: Attitude of Celebs
I think that some celebrities are too high up in their glory.
How hard is it to scribble yours and the other person's name on a picture? Not EVEN the other person's name. I mean..even Donald Trump signs (Peyton L proved that they're most likely sec.s), and I find him pretty rude and such.
Others, like Florence Henderson, last I knew, she sent out preprints, and I got one. She's not doing anything anymore..she could sign a couple!
People like this should really appreciate their fans more. Actually, they're what got them going. What would Florence have done if no one watched The Brady Bunch?

I agree with Shambler and Smuck. ;) I'm so thrilled and grateful when I receive at least an authentic, not to mention personalised!
I don't hate celebs or say "I'm not a fan anymore" when I receive a pp... Actually, I still appreciate it as I at least received something from them! There are many of my favourite actors who don't reply at all!
That makes me sad.

Re: Attitude of Celebs
Lizanne: Same here. Most of them should be appreciative that someone WANTS their autograph and asked for it. Charging for a signature is..well..being greedy. Look at Adam West! He charges.
I know I can NOT get ANYTHING from Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. I got an RTS from Goldie and Kurt..well..just haven't gotten anything.
No celebrity is better than any person that hasn't appeared on TV or whatever. They THINK they are, but they're not.

I don't think charging for an autograph is always a bad thing. For example Jane Seymour charges $10,- for her autograph but it goes to charity. I think that's a great idea. You are guaranteed an authentic autograph and you give money to charity. win/win situation. But for some celebrities to charge $85,- for there autograph is ridiculous.
I understand that most celebrities don't have time to write back to every piece of fanmail, but I think they can at least select a few out of the stack every week and send them a real autograph. It would take them what, maybe an hour every week. In that hour they could sign 50 autographs or even more. At least you have a chance of getting something authentic returned to you even if you would have to wait maybe a year.

Jane's is COMPLETELY different. It's authentic and it goes to charity; that's a big plus. $10 isn't so bad though. Especially since it goes to charity. Re: Attitude of Celebs
Some celebs, sign hundreds of photos a week, and it make them feel good, that we still like them. But some need to learn good manners.
On the whole, one autograph takes about 10 secords (even when being personalized)
So if we, are not worth that 10 secords, then are thay worth £7/$15 or our money to see their film?
And we are to blaime as well, because if thay are rude, and yet we still flock to see their movies, then there never learn their lesson.

Re: Attitude of Celebs
Some good points. exactly as you say, how long does it take to sign your name. no time at all. i dont know of any celeb that is actually that busy they couldn't sign propperly. i mean i would happily wait 4 months or whatever until they visit their agent rather than waiting 1 month for a PP. unfortunatly i don't think if the autograph collecting fraternity withdrew our £7 it would make much of a dent in their income. but thats besides the point, as there is not as many of us on the whole it shouldn't be that much of a hastle for them i wouldn't have thought.
You never know though. Maybe we should try writing our letters as "I'm not going to see your new movie untill you send me your autograph!"
