Why do you collect autographs?

I'm pretty new to this, meaning mass-collecting. I'm wondering why do you collect autographs? In most cases you're paying postage to get someones signature, so why?
I think I do it to be a little closer to 'Hollywood' or 'fame'. It feels good when someone like Betty White, or Henry Winkler, or whoever sends back something. For a brief second, they knew who I was

I collect it for the pure thrill of receiving something back as great as an autograph. Its a very unusal hobby which is very limited, but im one of the lucky people who understand how to do it ;)
P.S - i know i spelled unusal wrong

I collect the autographs of people I like only, so for me, having something signed by someone I have been watching for years, or just like, is a great thrill for me. Most of mine are mainly older ctors, so it's nice to have a little bit of a connection between them and me, if only for a little while.

I enjoy the whole process. I love writing letters to celebrities and thinking that they actually read my letter & I love to think that they took the time to reply with a signed photo
Collecting ip is my big passion. I go to tons of conventions and I'm always at the theatre. It's great to meet the people you admire and tell them in person how much you love them. The photographs I have of me and the stars are my most treasured possessions. They're a great talking point when friends come over and they bring back great memories!

I am far from a "mass collector". I have a small collection made up of only my FAVORITE celebrities from all mediums. I don't send requests for the sake of building up a large collection. I believe quality of better than quantity. Anyone can sending to hundreds of celebrites and have a large collection, but where is the sense in that?
I honestly hate Hollywood fame. I despise it. My collection is made up of those few celebrities that didn't let fame get to them. I have no diva's and very few A-listers. Trust me, if I wanted A-listers I could get them easily from a dealer. That isn't what I want though. I love my collection.
To answer you question, I do it out of pure boredem.

The fact that people I've admired for years would take a minute or two to read my letter and sign something for me just does something to me.

I collect because I love it. I'm not a "mass collector" either as someone pointed out, but I do have a fair share of autographs for someone who started a little shy of a year ago. I almost look at it like a game. I get a thrill out of addressing the envelope and writing the letter and then mailing off the envelope. It's fun for me. I usually collect from people who mean a lot to me personally. Not many people in the U.S. would know who Thore Scholermann is and yet it is one of my most treasured autographs. And when I get something back that's a surprise like a handwritten note thanking me from a celeb, then it's all worth it. I do it because I love it.

Me too. xD
I also do it because I can never stick to one thing for too long. And with so many celebs out there, it's impossible to quit this hobby right now...
