In Your Opinion, Is a PP Still a Success?

I think everyone would agree that nothing is better than recieving a real autograph. But for this topic in wheather or not a PP is a success, for me sometimes it is. I have recently switch my collection from sports to politics. Many former and current political figures only send out PP or AP and will return your iteam back either unsigned or with an AP. So when ever I recieve a PP from certain figures I am just happy to get a response and have an official picture of the person with their official state logo. Just having an iteam from certain political people is well worth the postage in the long run.

If a celeb only ever sends PPs, then I don't think you can see receiving one as a failure.

Personally, I research the signing habits of people I write to, and if I see they only do PPs then I don't write. I was planning on writing to Robbie Coltrane with a "Cracker" 10x8, but am no longer going to.

Secs, however, I think are a disgrace. I would rather receive no reply at all than a sec.

To me -

Authentic = success.

Anything else = failure, waste of my time, effort, money and stamps.

In my opinion, anything but the real thing is a failure.
I think the reason for this debate is simple, an authentic autograph is definded as something written or made with one's own hand
Since this site is classed as a autograph collecting site, it is easy to see why some would class a PP. AP or sec as a failure
As a collector of autographs, I find it hard to believe that most will not do research on the signing habits before they send a request. Why take the time writing a letter and paying for postage both ways when the person you are writing too will never read the letter? A secratary will dispose of the letter and stuff your envelope with a preprint or worse, sign it themselves. If it preprint makes you happy, studio fanmail is a simple email request - no letter to write, no cost, same result.
Again (my opinion) if people researched before they sent a request and/or when they posted a success they put PP or SEC success there would be no debate or rudeness on the boards.
As others have said, a success is definded by the individual recieving the mail, but it is not an autograph success

I am certainly not thrilled to get a PP, but I am glad the person cares enough about fans to send SOMETHING! I have to wonder about all the people I've written who I never heard back from. At least if I get a PP, I know they got my letter and responded.

So I don't trash PPs, but I don't go out of my way to get one.

I agree. I generally give PP's away to anyone that wants them. They aren't worth saving, and besides with all my stuff I just don't have the room.

Not at all. If people want to make time to sit and sign a bunch of pics, they will. If they dont, they wont. Regardless of their level of fame.

A celeb could easily sit and pre sign at least 750 photos in an hour. Have someone go through the mail, send them back. Even if they only set aside one hour a week, thats still 3000 replies a month.

3000 authentic replies a month, for 4 hours work.

But no, most celebs dont care about their fans and do the PP/AP/sec route, and dont even see their fanmail, nor care about it.

A PP is not the celebs way of "caring enough to give something because they dont have the time to sign authentically", it sthe celeb's way of saying "Im too lazy".
