Authenticity

Unread post by orlinik28 »

Not entirely sure this is the right thread but i hope so!

Does anyone know of a person or company in the UK which offers a service where they can authenticate autographs?

I'd be really grateful if anyone could give me any help,
Thanks Nikki :D

Dear Nikki,

you may want to contact David & Peter Robbins of Autographs Ink. Their phone number is 191-4102935 and 191-4105290 but I'm not sure if they offer an authentication service.

In Germany I'd recommand my friend Markus Brandes of Brandes Autographs who offers an authentication service (phone number: +49-7531-29861, e-mail: brandes@autogramme.com, website: http://www.autogramme.com) and in the US I'd recommand Stephen Koschal (phone number: +1-561-582-4439, e-mail: skoschal@aol.com, website: http://www.stephenkoschal.com).

May I ask what autograph you'd like to get examined?

Best,
Stephan

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply! :D I think i'll send an e-mail to Autograph Ink asking if they will do it.

I've got a couple actually which are ones i bought from ebay. They all come with lifetime money back guarantees but I know how dodgy ebay can be.
I've got Reese Witherspoon, Eric Bana, Keira Knighley and Orlando Bloom joint and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Be prepared that an authentication service is costy, mostly more expensive than the autograph itself that you got cheap through eBay.

Stephan

Once again, an authentication service is not to be used for autographs purchased on eBay since most authenticators won't even examine an item when they know it's off ebay since eBay lists 95% fakes in their autograph section.

An authentication service is primarely used for historical autographs and really sought after autographs (Beatles, Presley, Monroe, Brando, etc.)

I think the cost for examination should not be too much as you are only asking them to look at it for like, what 2 seconds? What lengths do they go to, to examine them or do they actually just glance at them?

I didn't know, that eBay gave statistics  I think 95% is an exaggeration. I would say 60-70% as there are actually people who are out there, that sell the odd genuine autograph because they want to earn a bit of money. . . 8)

Don't feel offended, mate, but your last statement showed me once more that you must be very new to collecting and examining autographs.

If an authentication would happen the way you describe it, then it's worth nothing. *lmao*

An authentication of an historical autograph can take several weeks. Maybe you should read the interview with Stephen Koschal about this issue (http://www.iada-cc.com/NewsDetail.asp?NewsID=119) before irritating other members by posting such false statements again.

I personally do not know any serious authenticator who's willing to examine a $20.00 Bruce Willis signed photo off eBay.

Best,
Stephan

I'm the not the type that will go to all lengths to find out the authentication of an autograph. I'm also not the type to really care or know that much about how authenticating and examinating an autograph works

And yes, I began collecting in Dec 05/Jan 06 {up}

That's exactly what I had guessed before. :P
