I noticed that threads pop up quite frequently asking how many stamps to put on the envelope for an autograph request or SASE, detailing the number of photos being sent and things like that.

I created this calculator to help those people and even those who just want a quick estimate of how many stamps they are going to need for all of the requests that are getting ready to send.

I guess you could say it is in "beta." Currently, it will only tell you the price and number of stamps for United States domestic postage, but people in other countries can use it right now to get an approximate weight for their requests and SASEs. Full support for other countries will come soon!

Please report any bugs or large inaccuracies! Rememeber, this is just an approximation as the weight of each individual envelope, photo, and letter will vary, but it should give you a pretty good idea of how many stamps you will need to use. For the most accurate calculations, visit your local Post Office.

If you can report weights of sizes of envelopes, photos, and letters that are not listed, especially those in other countries, please post in this thread or send me a PM!

Thanks! :D

Cool little tool. And good thing to point out it's an estimate, it's surprising sometimes how the weight can vary between two different envelopes or photo papers.

Haha, I agree.

It is! I've found that photo paper for printing at home tends to be thicker than the paper used when getting professional prints. So I took some professional prints and some home photo paper and tried to find a balance weight. I figured more people will print their photos from home, so I stayed in the upper half of the average.

I've been testing this with the few requests that I made last night to compare the actual weight with the estimated weight from the calculator and so far it's been surprisingly accurate. The weights listed in the computer are very slightly higher than the weights that I found for each individual item, so that if anything, theres a better chance you will "over stamp" than "under stamp." But of course, it would be nearly impossible to make this completely accurate.

I'm working on actually integrating it with the USPS's Postage Calculator. They provide tools for developers, so as soon as they email me back to activate my account, I can start working on that. That will allow international postage price calculation from the US. After that I'll start work on some other countries. :)
