I'd aim to have the letter arrive about 3-4 days in advance. And figure that mail takes 2-4 days to arrive at its destination, I'd say that 7-10 days in advance is all right. That's what I typically do.

Yes, I always put down on the envelope:

Please hold for CELEB NAME concert DATE.
