because it's an extra weight. In Germany normal letters are up to 20 gr and cost 0,75 eur. If I include an envelope, the weight and therefore costs of a letter will be multiplied. As a self-funded not-working student I won't be able to send out the letters, which cost ca. 3 eur. I send such letters only if I write VV as an artist may not go out and buy an envelope.
I don't think its rude. It's the right of the artist or his manager not to reply me if they want an envelope or think it's rude.
I go to the cinema and buy ticket. I buy DVDs and Blue-Rays. Don't you think, that spending 88p for a letter from the UK to DE is ok for those few, who write them? Anyway, I took my time, wrote a letter, printed photos (and didn't ask to send me theirs) - may I receive a reply? We're all humans and not everything should be measured with money.
On the other hand, I think it's rude to print the letters and not write them in hand.
I also think it's rude, when you write a letter to an artist you adore, and they send you a PP or write that they don't have time to sign photos. They just don't care and that is rude indeed. Dame
Judi Dench doesn't have time, but he signs everyone and everything. She's a great woman!!!! Other artists send pre-signed pics, and that is better, than PPs. It will take only an hour to sign more than 1000 photos and them send them out - that would be more polite, than redirect the fan mail to the SFM.......
Rude is like
Jeremy Irons to ask 25 USD for an autograph. He's a very rich man and if someone adores his work and ask just for an autograph, why not to sign and mail him back? I think
Katey Sagal is rude. She makes ca. 150.000 USD per season in Sons of Anarchy. Do you know she sells her signatures for 25 bucks on her official site? WTF? Is she that poor, that her fans need to may 25 bucks to get a signature? That is rude, I believe.
