Mary Black is an award-winning Irish singer and one of the most popular stars of contemporary Irish music. She first came to prominence as a member of the Irish folk group 'The Black Family', which also featured her sister, Frances. During the 1980s she had a successful solo career, having recorded songs composed by the legendary songwriter Jimmy McCarthy. Amongst her most notable songs are 'Vanities', 'Carolina Rua' and 'No Frontiers'.
She also appeared in a 1984 print advert for Guinness. She is often referred to in the hit puppet comedy A Scare At Bedtime, where the character of Rodge often speaks about his obsession with Mary Black. She is still active in the music business today.
