Nancy Stratford R A F’s Air Transport Auxiliary W W I I

Post by caappy »

Born Nancy Jane Miller in 1919.. Nancy Stratford vividly remembers her first airplane flight. It was her 16th birthday in 1935 and her big brother’s gift was a quick spin on a sightseeing plane over their native Los Angeles. She look lessons and soon became a pilot.. When the U.S. entered the war in late 1941, she was recruited with 23 other American women pilots to serve for three years in the RAF’s Air Transport Auxiliary. Stationed from 1942-1945 at Hamble air base in Southampton, England, the young aviator flew planes to waiting pilots and maintenance yards all over the U.K.

Sent her 2 photos on 28 Jul and got them back signed on 11 Aug.. She also sent a signed note thanking me for my interest in her flying.. The 2 photos I sent seen in the below article..
