I'll say again I have never seen a PP from Richard, so I would be interested to see the previous one you think is a PP, presumably alongside an example of another identical one. Always good to check before mouthing off and appearing foolish, especially when it is someone who has been away filming long term and still taken the time to ensure you got a genuine response. Also, have a think about how many he would have had to sign to leave enough for responding to the many requests he receives.

No, sorry. You can't use the stamps again. If you try to steam them and take them off the envelope and then glue it on the envelope, it won't be sent. My dad used to work at the post office. They don't always need to cancel them when they're on large envelopes. Even large envelopes sent from the US won't always have a cancellation mark, just a barcode.

Ahhhh so THAT is why some of my SASE come back with the stamps in perfect condition. Interesting......I always thought they had to cancel them or put the barcode. Huh! Learn somethin new every day. ;)

It wasnt my plan to take the stamps off. Just write a new adresse on it and cut it from the bigger envelope. I know that its not allowed to cut stamps and glue them on a new envelope but when they dont stamp it? When i get an rts i use the sase again too so whats the matter

I don't know if it's the same for you (where do you live?) but for me in the UK an RTS normally comes back to me they RTS it using the envelope I sent to them with, and the SASE is still inside unused. There's no issue there as the SASE and the stamps on it have not been used to mail an item. Whether or not they don't postmark the stamps on a letter which has been through the system is irrelevant... it's not intentional, it's just because it has slipped through the net... they're not sitting there thinking "hmmm, if I don't postmark this then it can be used again, so I'll be nice and not do that". You might get away with it, as it's not unheard of to address and stamp a letter then send it to someone else so have to change the address, but the bottom line is, once stamps have been through the system, they're invalid for further use and it is illegal. There are also more ways than you think for them to tell if it's a double use.

Many places now use ultraviolet ink or something like that to mark the stamps that have gone through the system already. So even though you can't see the cancellation marks, the postal machines can see that the stamps have been used already. I know people try to reuse stamps all the time but it is highly illegal. And with especially the US postal service losing so much money every year, they seem to be more strict about it recently. I wouldn't risk it!

Well first: im german, my english is not perfect. I said i could, i meant that i could do this cause its not stamped but not that i would do it. I never done it and i did not know about the possibilities of post offices to mark the stamps as used. very funny, i just said that its strange and my envelope is not stamped - yes im very foolish and illegal cause of that anyways im a bit smarter now, did not know that they mark the stamps invisible. So, i hope this discussion is over now

Always good to learn, but language issues aside, you did quite clearly state

which does rather imply you planned to reuse the stamps, hence several members pointing out the illegal nature of that.
