I went to an Edinburgh Book Festival event on 12th August 2014 where George R R Martin was speaking. Afterwards he had a signing session for all of those in attendance and I got two books signed by him :

A very interesting man to hear about and so pleased to have met him

If it makes you feel any better, the tickets sold really quickly. I count myself extremely fortunate that I managed to get hold of a couple for my wife and myself.

I guess that's not so bad then. Frustrating that George RR Martin was within walking distance of me and I didn't even know though!
