Rules for becoming a TM

To all prospective TMs:

I know there has been a lot of comments and topics in the recent months about what a TM is how a member can become one. The short of it is: you become a TM by earning it. You earn it by being helpful on the forum—but you don’t have to be a TM to help others.

There hasn’t been a post with rules on becoming a TM so a group of Mods and TMs got together and tried to come up with some. Here they are:

TM Qualifications:
~The member must be a member of this board for at least 5 months.
~Minimum of 300 constructive posts in Collecting Help/Autograph Collecting Discussions forums
~Minimum of 10 posted successes or RTS’s
~Must be a regular on the boards, visit an average of 3 days/week
~Must possess the main qualities of a moderator: help / information / knowledge / advice / motivation / peacemaker
~Must give more advice and answer more questions, than ask for advice and ask questions (Bottom line is you should possess the necessary qualities above).
Should respect all members.

Some basics about the rule on post count : posts in REQUEST A CELEBRITY ADDRESS and GAMES forums DO NOT COUNT —they pad your post count, but the GMs don’t like members who do that just to get to the minimum number and then ask to be considered as a TM. Also, posting “Good Success” on every feedback you look at is considered by some Mods to be spamming—it is fine on occasion, but not on EVERY success.

We also have decided to ask potential TMs to answer this question: “Why do you want to become a TM?”

If you think you are qualified and want to help on the forum, Paigey012 has offered to be the Mod you go to. In your post to her, please take the time to answer the question. Then what she will do is take your name and answer and put it in the Mod forum for discussion. She will set up a poll and Mods will vote and explain their vote. The voting process is at least a week long (it might be longer if the Mods are busy) so PLEASE don’t inundate her with pms checking on your status. She will let you know when the poll closes. Just be patient and keep helping others. {thumb2}

Aside from making sure the member follows the listed rules, Mods are looking for these things when they look at the candidate:
-Is this member helpful? Or do they cause problems?
-Do they need more time to find out about the hobby?
-As a TM you will have people criticize you and perhaps be rude: how is your response? As a TM you are an “ambassador” (for lack of a better word) for the site and we want to maintain a good image.

Thank you for taking the time to read these rules. Please keep in mind that EVERYONE CAN’T be a TM or a Mod—the site has WAY too many members for that. We hope that you don’t get disheartened and leave the site if you ask to be a TM and we no longer have any openings. We are grateful that you are a member and hope you are enjoying your time here talking to other collectors and writing your favorite celebrities.
