Should we have rules for Autographs For Sale / Exchange

Unread post by jasonw »

Hi,
I have noticed that there has been a recent increase of fakes in out Autographs For Sale / Exchange section. Should we have some kind of rules, stricter ones? For example; you would have to be a member for a period of time before you can list something, and that you would have to be a trusted dealer in order to list more then 3 items, and that you would have to post pictures of the item you are selling...
I dont think the forum should be delected, but I think it should be managed more efficently.

I made a similar thread months ago, here are 2 of my 3 ideas from back then (the other wouldnt work) and a couple of others. I'd like to see it deleted altogether, but its not going to happen...

1) Make it a rule that any autographs you're trying to sell/trade MUST have pics/scans of them posted in the thread. Far too many threads have no pics, and members are saying (PM/email me for pics). The fact that these deals are being done in private worries me, as it implies that people are selling/trading FAKES. If they were authentic, why wouldnt they just post pics in the thread?

2) Have some Moderators specific to the sale/trade forum. This would enable the obvious fraudsters threads to be removed ASAP. When someone is offering (for example) an "Authentic Johnny Depp signed index card" for $4, you know somethings wrong. But the inexperienced collectors will PM that guy immediately thinking they have a bargain.

3) "Believed secretarials" can NOT be advertised as "authentic".

4) Every autograph for sale/trade MUST be accompanied by WHERE/HOW it was obtained. In-person (date/place), via venue (where/when) or TTM.

For me, #1 has to be done. There is absolutely no excuse for it not being a rule.

Nope, #2 hasnt been done. There are no specific Mods to that forum, just the "trusted sellers" group, which is a joke. We needs Mods specific to it, and any suspect threads moved ASAP.

I was thinking of making this topic, but I am late in the game LOL

I agree with Andy and Jason on this. Too many people come on this site with "shady" deals and when time comes to ask them for a scan to be posted public, they all go ape on the mods.

I believe Andy's #1 is a MUST and the the #4 is a MUST as well. People just state "yeah, I got it IP here" but no photo and one wonders whether he just researched the dates and just added them.

A group of Mods should be assigned to the Autograph Sale Section because this is just going out of hand. Too many new topics, too many fraudsters

Cheers

P.S - I wouldn't mind being one of those mods

I for one would like to moderate that forum if admin would allow it, alongside the likes of yourselves jasonw and Andy316. I dont feel as if the current moderator for that forum is online enough, and when they are on it's only to do deals, not to rectify the shady business going on. There's a worrying number of people just registering on this site and using their first posts to sell supposed 'authentics' from A-listers. One can only assume that once they've concluded their private business with inexperienced members, they're never to be seen again. I would like to see that forum made 'trade only', as I believe this will root out a lot of scammers who are strictly out for money. Another problem is that it seems to be turning into something of a general fleamarket - one trainee moderator is even selling sim cards for mobile phones! :?
