How to remove sharpie from photo safely? Please help

Hi,I know this has been asked before but i forget what people said. I would like to know what can be used to remove a personalization from a photo,it is in permanent marker probably sharpie and i would like to remove it because i purchased it and it is made out to someone else. Please only tell me what you have tried yourself or know for a fact will remove it safely without damaging the photo in any way because if it will damage the photo in any way i will leave the personalization on the photo. So if anyone can help me and has removed permanent marker successfully let me know,thanks.

For me personally, I don't mind personalizations to other people when it comes to photos that I've bought. But You can remove it with some solutions, but if your not experienced with doing this time of thing you'll run the risk of destroying the photo. it's best to take it right to a photo center and ask if they specialize in removing ink and marks from photos.

So its that difficult to remove it safely. I might have to leave it on if its risky. Its too bad sharpie didnt make a removing soulution for their markers.Thanks ryan.

Yes, I've tried some practice runs and it's a very diffucult thing to master. if you do too much you'll take the ink right off the photo as well, or it will leave a lighter area on the photo where the personalization was before.

DONT DO IT!

One Time I Signed a Glossy 8x10 with my name...the next day i tried to remove it with things that people are saying work..and it DESTORYED The photo 4 times...LOL!

There's several actually. Goo-Gone workd, Denatured Alchohol works, and a couple more but I can't remember the names of the products.

but will it CLEANLY remove it or will there be stains on the photo? :neutral:

If done right, some can be completely removed with out any sign that it was ever there. but it all depends on how hard the celebrity pushed with the marker or pen when they wrote on the photo. if there was pressure an indent will be left where the name was even though the ink has been removed.

Yeah its just to risky to take a chance but thanks for the comments and i am still open to any suggestions from anyone who might have a proven method !

Haven't ever done this before but Acetone (like nail polish remover) is used to lift inks on a lot of papers. Not sure whether it stains the pic or not though.
