Re: NFL TTM Thread

Pretty pumped: got my February 8, 1988 issue of SI signed by Doug Williams, his rookie, and another couple of cards back from my coworker today.

I let him have a card for his trouble in getting all this for me.

Also, I'm kind of mad: LA Tech had its spring game on Saturday and I had to work. Apparently a slew of people were there, including Bradshaw. So disappointed. :-/.
Favorites TTM: Terry Bradshaw (card 3x) Tedy Bruschi (Card / 8x10), Mike Ditka (card), Alex Karras (SI 1970), Archie Manning (card), Matt Schaub (card)
Favorites In Person: Michael Brooks, Matt Stover, Karl Malone, Andrew McMahon (Something Corporate/Jack's Mannequin), Eve 6, Fred Dean, Ryan Moats
Currently Seeking: Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, any of the 1970s Steelers, Any players that attended Louisiana Tech University

Grats on Doug Williams. Tried him once when he was in the front office of Tampa. Wanted that Pro Set Super Bowl card signed bad. Does he sign c/o Grambling or is he impossible to get now?

Thanks I appreciate the compliment! It is a true labor of love. I may take you up on the offer, though I tend to go for the more obscure or players with limited popularity. I don't shell out the addresses on my site just because I've had players tell me they look at my site, and many players don't want their addresses out there. I got no problem sharing in private though, as long as it's within reason, and if I got it I can see if I have anything current.

The question about how many cards you should send has come up before. I try to limit it to three. If I think the guy is busy or popular- say Peyton Manning for example -definitely one only. I have abused players from time to time, and I still get a bit embarrassed about having Stan Gelbaugh sign 8 different cards- but he kindly did them all because I was such a big fan. In person, I bring a huge stack, and then probe them for how many they can sign. Eric Metcalf for example signed 12 cards for me. He laughed the whole time he did so. I am a big fan of personalization, but many players see this as an extra way to charge a fee to scare of resellers. The ironic thing is if they were to personalize it, nobody would buy that autograph on Ebay if it was to Bobby Joe. Sometimes I practice the mantra of dropping a dollar in the urinal to get a quarter out, by offering the player extra cards, to give them incentive to sign additional cards. In some exceptional cases, they will sign everything and send them all back, which is nice as well.

Target right now- or Walmart, usually have the best retail deals outside of your local card shop. LMT I think got me turned onto those horrible Target Football Autograph Memorabilia Packs. For 12.99 you get an autograph and 4 packs of pretty decent cards. Best ones I've gotten so far are Carlos Rogers and Selvin Young. Pulled two Texans, but obviously nothing amazing. Sage Hit is also out with its draft day set for 2012. It looks so much better than last year's laughter of a set, and for 20.00 there's 2 rookie autographs in here. Pulled a TY Hilton and a Jayron Hosley from the box.

Speaking of autographs, Roosevelt Leaks, former Colts rb and Texas Longhorn signed his 3 UT upper deck cards for me in about 4 months time. Surprised he lived here in Austin still.

Yea I used to collect cards alot more when I was in middle school. Had a couple boxes probably upwards in the thousands range. Got me looking on Google for best packs to buy and came upon the topic of "Pack Searching". Not sure if this has been discussed here or if anyone here knows about since this is an Autograph site but basically along the lines you can feel through the packs and tell if a pack has a jersey or auto card in it. People even go as far as taking a pocket scale with them and weighing the packs to the tenth of an ounce just to get a jersey card worth $2 because they have all flooded the market. Never seen one of these so called "pack searchers" at my local Target. I even tried to see if I could do it myself and I guess I just don't get the hang of it. If I want to go for something big I'll just buy on of those hundred dollar hobby boxes that contain guaranteed autos and relics.

Anyways since Braylon Edwards is currently a free agent any ideas on the best way of contacting him?

Think I'm gonna try my luck sending to his foundation address.

Also those that received Foster autos how long was the wait for them?

Edit: Nevermind. Got home from school today to find this for me.

Grats on your Foster(s?) guys! Is he just signing photos? -Not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Mack Brown and Major Applewhite signed 2 cards a piece via Mack Brown's website. Very short wait. (I guess they felt for me and how badly I got sunburned at the scrimmage.)

You guys think sending now to Stadiums and such is okay? Teams are starting most voluntary workouts now.

I know some coaches are signing right now... I'm sending to Dick LeBeau and Rob Ryan at the end of the week.
