I try to avoid it as much as possible. Sometimes though it is the only way and I end up feeling guilty. Saying that though I feel guilty sending most requests or asking celebs in person for an autograph, unless it's a designated signing.

Plus some celebrities are so famous for one thing that they get type cast and then cannot get work outside of it. Their main income then comes from charging for their autograph at a convention to fans of that one role, i.e. the casts from most of the Star Treks.
