I am a Japanese girl and I would like to make friends with my American classmate, both us are college students. She is also a girl. I don`t think I am cool enough so I am worried that she may not interested in making friends with me.
I decide to tell her I would like to make friends with her. So when she was sitting and writing, I stood next to her and said " I like you, I would like to make friends with you", she responded right away " I like you ,too" without considering anything and she didn`t looked up to look my face, just like her reflex action!! and while she was saying these words, she kept writing. My another american friend told me that in the U.S., if someone say "I like you." another person would respond" I like you ,too"
because they don`t want to hurt someone`s feeling.

In my situation,

Does this girl really like me and want to be my friend? or she doesn`t want to hurt my feeling so she reply that she likes me?

How to know she really likes me and treat me as her friend?

How would an American girl react if she really like you and want to be your friend?

Please tell me the truth, you don`t need to worried that you would hurt my feeling.
