Sorry to hear about the failure. Sadly, most athletes will only sign if you pay them to sign for you. This is a concept that I don't understand since they are making millions of dollars. I would hope that they would treat their fans with better respect.

At the start of the NBA season I sent a card, Lor,stamp and envelope to the training camp of the Memphis Grizzlies to Mr. Vince Carter. On 5/8/15 I received my card back unsigned along with my stamp and a letter thanking me for my support and that Mr Carter cannot sign autographs. On well
