This reply was a pioneering success, as the reply was stemmed from an attempt known as a "PBA".

A PBA is short for "Pre-Broadcast Attempt". It is a fanmail attempt that is sent to a TV presenter, at a time prior to a live broadcast.

I sent my letter to Mr. McGurk, 72 hours before the live broadcast of the first Six Nations game in this year's campaign. I figured if I sent it on a Wednesday, it would reach him on the Saturday when he would be in studio. If I had sent it on a Monday, it would have failed.

I am currently attempting similar experimental attempts on the rest of the RTÉ rugby panel, including Brent Pope, George Hook and Ronan O' Gara.

Tom McGurk is an Irish journalist, broadcaster and rugby commentator with RTÉ Sport. He is best known for hosting pre-match and post-match analysis on major rugby matches, including the Six Nations Championship. He was formerly married to RTÉ radio and television personality Miriam O' Callaghan.

Sent Mr. McGurk 1 LOR, SASE and photo on 29/01/2014. On 05/02/2014, after a week-long wait, I received my photo signed, along with a letter in which McGurk hopes I enjoy this year's Six Nations matches.
