STOP BUMPING 2 YEAR OLD TOPICS

I was lucky enough to get a Walk of Fame Starline card signed via venue about 8 years ago. She was only at the show one day (this particular venue had star performances but usually one or two day runs). They were good with passing on mail though and that's how I got my success.

I'm sure if I bought a book and sent it to the regular address it would be signed. Many non-signing regularly stars will sign their books. Up until one recent failure from a poster that was the only way to get a ttm Kirk Douglas autograph for 10+ years.

As for the assistant...she is the same one who was working (or still works for) for Carol Burnett and she sends nearly the same worded message. Someone recently got a signed index card by Carol so she may be done with non signing already, hopefully.

Considering that Julie does sign photos via venue I am wondering if it is really her who instituted the "copyright" portion of the letter.

With respect, I disagree. Dame Julie signed a book plate for me a few years ago via her assistant at the address everyone uses. I explained that a book was too heavy & valuable to post (also that the book plate was for a friend who was an immense Julie Andrews fan & that the book that I was putting it in was a gift). Ok no photo, but a success.
Then a few months ago Dame Julie very kindly signed 2 photos for me ... one a Mary Poppins photo, the other a Sound of Music photo. These were sent via venue at a performance. BUT The Sound of Music photo was actually sent to her fellow performer at the show, Nick Hammond to sign. Luckily for me they both signed the Sound of Music photo. No mention was made by either performer regarding copyright. While copyright infringement is a real issue, I suspect that it is more policed by the assistant than the artist, & legitimately makes for a good excuse not to sign when the actor is busy or receives a lot of mail. Julie seems to me to be very generous via venue.

I agree with andyvd. The only proven way to receive Dame Julie's autograph is by sending her one of her autobiographies or other published works. I sent my hardcover copy of Home, along with what I thought was a very sincere, heartfelt 2-page letter (she is my all-time favorite actress, after all), and received it back signed and dedicated in June 2011. Her husband passed away in November 2010, which is what I thought might have accounted for the delay, but perhaps she is just THAT busy. I did my research before sending to her, and it paid off. She will not sign photos sent to her, but her published works are of a different story. All I know is that I am incredibly thankful to have received her autograph, as I now know of many people who have had little to no success in receiving a reply from Dame Julie...again, because they didn't send something she created/wrote/etc etc. (that's what I am thinking, at least)

If you would like to see photos of my signed and dedicated copy of Home, I have them posted on my blog here:

Thats silly!
Yes it is illegal to have our own printed pictures signed, BUT the only time it becomes illegal in the sense that charges will be pressed is if we attempt to SELL what we have gotten signed, and we will get in trouble not the celeb because they don't know we didn't pay for the picture from the copyright holders...I know this because I have a friend that runs an Autograph shop, and they have to make sure they only buy pictures that are signed on pictures directly FROM the copyright holder.

I think Dame Julie does still send out authentic autographs, although she is extremely picky about what she signs.
If you really want her autograph, you can try sending out a copy of one of her books (e.g. her memoir Home) - or just the dust sleeve to save on postage. Most of her positive results on this site seem to be signed books. I sent her a 3-page letter and a copy of her memoir about this time last year and received it back in June - it took about 10 months but she did personalise and sign it.
Good luck!
