is it ok to put coins in the envelope?
It should be ok, but for some people is offended to give coins instead of Dollar Bills. Another thing if you give coins, your letter will be weight more and it will cost you more for the postage right.
For me it's not so much the cost of the extra weight, more that the weight shows there is coinage inside, making it susceptible to being interfered with.
