At least cjhanson makes an otherwise boring forum interesting by stirring the pot. look at how many views this post got - people are starved for excitement. I say cjhanson bring it on!

Two different signatures, the ttm versus IP for Van Dyke. At least Jerry Lewis' secretary tries.

Wanna talk rushed book signing signatures?

Bob Newhart did a signing years ago. Huge crowd, rushed signing. He wasn't even looking up while signing.
BUT
he gave the SAME exact signature as he does ttm. It was so nice and exact just like the ttm.

Then there's Alan Alda. When he did a signing there must have been a thousand people there. He spoke to each person, shook hands, switched pens to sharpie from his book to audio version but it was rushed due to crowd size.
BUT
the in person was the SAME style, size signature as ttm. Another great star of the past who doesn't use secretary.

I guess Dick Van Dyke had double the people Alda had hence the huge difference in signatures................

I spent years touting Charlton Heston as the best ttm signer, one of the greatest celebrities there was. As he was nearing the final stage of Alzheimer's I looked long and hard at the ttm v. ip signatures as people were still getting the secretary signature. I never outed him but thankfully a guy on Autograph Magazine did it.

I'm trying to help. I know it doesn't seem like that but I am.

It seems how the letters are written matches but the only difference is his name isn't all connected. Is it possible he just writes differently for his TTM?

Just as a matter of interest - this reminds me of the Jerry Lewis debate. In my opinion cjhanson is usually correct - DVD's assumed real sig. has no spacing between the words and is one continuous flow.

1) handwriting is not the point. the point is the ttm signature and the IP signature signed with the drawing (meaning he had plenty of time) do not match
2) reason DVD is the one being called out is because he's one of the last "great ttm signers" that hasn't been fully outed as secretarial
3) reason we do it is because we don't want people wasting their time, stamps, envelopes, letterheads, typing ink etc...on something that isn't real

I concur. I have no idea if DVD's signatures are real or not, but I can say for certain that I have autographs from many male celebrities that were signed right in front of me. Not only are they legible, but are distinctive and beautiful in their own right.

[color=#0000BF]I would like to just state two things. #1 - It's stupid that people are met with such hostility EVERY SINGLE time they post about their Dick Van Dyke success. The fact is that no one knows for sure if they're authentic or not, so why not let people enjoy their success?

#2 - A "beautiful, womanly" signature? Really? Last time I checked, the ability or inability to write proper cursive did not dictate whether you are male or female. My sister has horrendous handwriting. She always has ever since the time she was little, and it didn't matter how much she practiced, it never got 'prettier'. On the other hand, my father and grandfather have beautiful handwriting. It's perfect, flowing, legible cursive. I'm sure that this has to do mostly with the fact that proper handwriting is not taught in schools today. Apparently it's not needed or something [i](insert sarcasm here), [/i]but that is another argument.

My point is this: assuming that Mr. Van Dyke's signatures are a secretary just because it's pretty, legible cursive is a really naive and ignorant thought. Alright, I'm jumping off my soap box now. ;-) [/color][/quote]

Exactly what i was about to say. Great post. Unfortunately no one will listen and they will just ignore this post and keep saying it's a sec even though it's authentic.

Why does all of this happen on every DVD post?
