Honestly... a wee bit of research given you knew he was both old and had an issue with his eyesight. I met him at the premiere of Curse of the Were Rabbit and he wasn't signing all the way back then, though he was delightful in how he spoke to us. Not all celebs with eyesight issues refuse to sign, the great Clive Dunn did so right up to his death, with the aid of a helper, as do several others, but it is well documented that Peter doesn't sign. When dealing with older generation celebrities, you have to do more research than others, just to be sure, that way there is no disappointment at the end result, or indeed a waste of time and money in sending requests.
Well although I had seen previous pre-printed photos sent out to people who had written to him before, I personally like to find out for myself what I am going to receive, as sometimes I do think a celebrity may not send out entirely pre-prints and occasionally personally respond to a letter. For instance, majority of Johnny Depp's LOR's get back an autopenned autograph, however I have seen a couple of people on here receive personalised handwritten autographs back from him. Therefore I believe you should not rely on what other people have written on the internet, and regardless of the couple of quid you may spend on photos and stamps I think it's worth finding out for yourself. That's my philosophy anyway.
Great philosophy, and well worth it. Except where the person in question NEVER signs because of age and health related issues.

Given he's not been signing for years, I don't really get the disappointment.

Peter Sallis Disappointment

Well I wrote to Peter Sallis on 5th August, the famous voice of Wallace in Wallace & Gromit, and character of Norman Clegg in Last of the Summer Wine, and I enclosed a photo of Wallace and Gromit, a letter of request and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

I used the following address:
Peter Sallis
Jonathan Altaras Associates
11 Garrick Street
Covent Garden
London
WC2E 9AR

I received a printed letter back on 21st September saying he is sadly unable to sign anything, and they returned my photo and enclosed a photo with a pre-printed signature on it. I am aware Mr. Sallis is now 92 and suffers from macular degeneration meaning his eyesight is going, so I daresay it is no longer possible to obtain an autograph from Peter Sallis at all. Shame, but nevertheless I tried.

You can see the pre-printed autograph here:

And the photo I sent to be signed:

Personally unless you're happy with a tiny pre-printed photo, I wouldn't bother writing to Peter Sallis for an autograph. I don't even know if my letter was read by him. Just watch the programmes and appreciate his work that way.
