Nah I've actually got British pound coins, so whenever I send money with a request to the UK, I send them their own currency.

If you included money in your envelope, you included dollar bills right? I don't know if that would be helpful...? Cause they have another currency..

I like the sticky note idea I'm going to do that... Also, did you send to them from the US or from another country?
I live in Illinois, so yes I sent them from here in the US
