6/08/2008 - Although she is most often classified as a country artist, her music also draws on other genres including folk, pop, rock and roll and blues. She is one of the daughters of Johnny Cash and his first wife, Vivian Liberto Cash Distin, born shortly before the release of her father's first single.
Cash has, to date, received one Grammy Award, for "Best Female Vocalist - Country" (in 1986) for the hit "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me". Ironically enough, the writing of the song began on Cash's way home from the 1983 Grammy Awards, after a defeat at the hands of country-rocker Juice Newton for the award for "Best Female Vocalist - Country".
