If you want to request an autograph, follow the guidelines bellow. If you just want to mail a letter with the address above, and do not want anything back, then you can stop reading! If you live in Netherlands send a properly stamped and self addressed envelope (minimum size 8.5" x 4") with your request letter and a photo. You can include a piece of cardboard to keep the photo from bending in shipping and also add "Do Not Bend" on the envelopes. Send your letter and wait. On average, there is going to be a 3+ month wait for a response. If you do not live in Netherlands, add several* International Reply Coupons. The International Reply Coupons (IRC) will be used by the receiver to purchase dutch stamps. You can only get them at your post office. Place the IRCs into the envelope, not on it. 9/21/2009 - So.. I sent Miep a request in, ohhhh, I would say January. It was around the time of her 100th Birthday. After sending my request I came back on the forum to check things up on Miep. I had gotten a success about a year ago from her, so I was certain I would get my items returned. (I sent a paperback copy of The Diary of Anne Frank as well as a DVD insert to Remembering Anne Frank) I was sad and worried when I noticed the last few Miep feedbacks came back unsuccesful. I sent an email to her site and I was told that Miep was no longer signing. I was a bit upset. I had sent the book, DVD and shipping was $30.00 alone. I just wanted my items back at that point, signed or not signed. In June, I received my SASE. The package came back opened. The book was not enclosed. Either lost in shipping or stolen(which has been happening with my stuff, I think) Inside was the dreaded letter that stated Miep was no longer signing. I took out the DVD and didn't think about removing the sitcker I had placed on it. When I send to older actors, I usually include a post it note directing them where to sign. I place the note right on the DVD insert or photo with an arrow and little message. When I got home from the Post Office, I chucked the DVD insert and envelope in a pile of junk mail. There it sat until Friday night. In preparing for the jewish holiday I had to clean up my piles of junk around the house. In one pile was the envelope and DVD insert. I took the insert w/ its sticker still on it, upstairs to look for the actual case with the DVD to put the insert back with the DVD and put it in my unautographed DVD collection. What happened next almost stopped my heart. Once I found the case I grabbed the insert and took of the sticker and BAM!!! Right underneath it was Mieps autograph in black sharpie. I couldn't believe it. I literally jumped for joy. It was an AMAZING surprise. All I could think was, here I discarded the insert and left in a pile of junk where it could have EASILY been destroyed and yet it was still in mint condition. I counted my lucky stars that night before I went to sleep. And all these days later, I still look at it with a huge smile. I would have been heartbroken had I found the DVD insert one day crushed and bended with Mieps signature. All because I didn't remove the post it. I am so grateful that Miep signed it, despite the letter that accompanied it. I am honored. thank you Miep and Fanmail. I love autograph collecting and this is now my FAVORITE success.
Sent to the address in the database.

7/10/2009 - Sent: 5/1/09 & Received 7/8/09
Notes: All I sent was a letter and in return I got back a formal letter thanking everyone for the birthday gifts and wishes and explaining that she can no longer sign. However, on the back, she did answer one of my questions and sent a signed postcard = What a wonderful woman!

5/06/2009 - On April 27th I sent a very long email to Miep Gies through her official website. Today, May 6th, I got an email that said:
"Dear (my name),
I am sorry but my writing is deteriorating and causes pain. I have therefore stopped signing. I hope you will understand.
Best regards,
Miep Gies"
I really wanted her autograph |
